The history of Colditz porcelain: The Carl-August Zschau manufactory, which is currently one of the largest companies, was also established in Colditz in today's Gasch-Platz area. In 1804, the company Thomsberger & Hermann moved from Wermsdorf to Colditz and until 1929 produced high-quality tableware in Badergasse, first stoneware and then porcelain. The Zschau company had to leave the Oberanger area after a fire and is seizing the opportunity to meet the extremely increased demand by building a new plant in the opposite Muldenwiesen. The joint-stock company whose name was known until recently as "the share" was established. This factory grew and grew, and in 1958, under the leadership of Günter Gottlebe, the decisive step in the factory's transition from earthenware to porcelain took place. It developed into the largest manufacturer of household and hotel porcelain in the GDR and had a huge export quota. It was the largest employer in the Colditz area. After the reunification, this huge company was privatized by the asset manager. The production facilities were systematically neglected by the new owners and were completely dismantled after a 4-year waiting period.
