Tófej Ceramics:
Tófej is located in Zala County.
Around 1960, the Hungarian enamel industry turned towards the unused Tófej factory: it took over the production of ceramic glaze from the LAMPART plant in Kecskemét and entrusted it to the Tófej facility. The management of the facility was entrusted to certain Czugh Dezső and Czugh János, potters from Magyarszombatfa, by the leadership of Zala County in 1964.
The factory produced nearly 350 different products. Among the decorative works manufactured in Tófej, there were vases, decorative containers, wall plates, liqueur, and wine sets. They also produced figurative and other stove tiles, as well as 60-70 types of floor tiles. Due to its affordability and high performance, no artisan could compete with the Tófej facility.
The Tófej ceramics received continuous numbering from T-1 to T-350 or T-400 (the last product number is only an approximate value, the exact number is currently unknown). The numbers increased over time from 1964 to 1985. The last 30-50 product numbers were introduced in the last year. At the bottom of the products, there are not hieroglyphs but the signature of the creator, allowing for identification of the mold maker or painter.
